‘Spider-Man 4’ Helmer Destin Daniel Cretton Says “Giant Fight Scene” With “Bunch Of Villains” Got Cut: “Maybe For Another One, We’ll Bring Them Back”

“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” feels like a genuine second wind for the iconic Marvel Comics superhero, with “Shang-Chi” and “Wonder Man” director Destin Daniel Cretton helping star Tom Holland push toward what could end up becoming the first installment in a new trilogy. The movie seems to have a slew of various rogues/villains showing up in NYC to take on the web-head, such as what we’ve all figured was an MCU soft-reboot of The Hand (ninjas dressed in red is a dead giveaway), Michael Mando‘s grand return as Scorpion, Marvin Jones III back in the part of crimelord Tombstone (had voiced him in the first “Spider-Verse” film), Tarantula, Boomerang, Ramrod, the telapathic hooded figure expected to be Sadie Sink (rumors pointing at Jean Grey, who traditionally isn’t known a baddie outside of the Dark Phoenix persona) and reports that Tramell Tillman is playing the anti-mutant character, Bill Metzger (head of Department of Damage Control, who is expected to use government resources to crackdown on supes in the city).

Well, it looks like Cretton was aiming to add even more villains, and some were ultimately scrapped, as the filmmaker revealed during a chat with YouTube channel Nerdtropolis to promote his MCU sequel.

“There was a whole other scene that ended up getting cut from the movie, that we were going to throw a WHOLE BUNCH of villains into one giant fight scene that ended up getting cut. We were looking at a lot of the old classics; it was really fun, though. We got to design a lot of them. Maybe for another one, we’ll bring them back.” Unclear what he’s talking about, a maybe version of The Sinister Six (the lineup has changed a lot over time) or the Symbiotes (Scream, etc).

Interestingly enough, during an interview in Shangahi, China, Marvel Studios‘ Kevin Feige revealed that they’re already considering future plans with their collaboration with Sony with an aim to bring Miles Morales to live-action once the studio is done with him on the animation side and even talked-up the possiblity if making another 2-5 more solo movies (unclear if that’s with or without Holland as Paker). So, in theory, there might be room for Cretton to come back (he sounds like he had a really good time, and Holland has been singing his praises) and use those villains he wasn’t able to put in this fourth movie.

On deck for the director are a live-action “Naruto” movie (already in the casting phase), the second season of “Wonder Man” on Disney+, and a gestating follow-up to “Shang-Chi” starring Simu Liu (“Avengers: Doomsday”).

We’d advise would-be audiences to secure their “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” tickets for the opening weekend (debuting on July 31, 2026) soon, as a bunch of those screenings have been selling out or prime seats will get scooped up by eager moviegoers before too long. Given how spoiler culture is with social media, it might be a good idea to stay off certain apps until you watch the latest MCU installment for yourself.
