WB Reportedly Wants To "Hit Pause" On Future Ezra Miller Projects

Following several recent troubling incidents and allegations of aggression and violence, including a very recent arrest in Hawaii, it appears that Ezra Miller (“Justice League,” the “Fantastic Beasts” franchise) may have finally gone too far for Warner Bros., the studio Miller is currently working for, who is finally considering some action against him. A new bombshell piece from Rolling Stone reveals that soon after the actor’s arrest, Warner Bros. and DC executives held an emergency meeting on March 30. Miller’s pattern of aggressive incidents in recent years is covered in-depth in the piece, and a source adds that the actor had “frequent meltdowns” during the filming of “The Flash.” The same source described Miller as “losing it” during the production. “Ezra would get a thought in [their] head and say, ‘I don’t know what I’m doing,’” the insider told Rolling Stone.

During that meeting, the consensus was that studio executives are leaning toward pausing future projects with Miller. This itself is very complicated because Miller is part of the ‘Fantastic Beasts’/Potterverse franchise, but more importantly stars in their own “Flash” movie coming out in 2023, which has already been shot.

Last month, a law enforcement report from the Hawaii Police revealed that actor Miller was arrested for “disorderly conduct and harassment” in Hilo, Hawaii, after an altercation at a bar. In that report, a Hawaii couple accused the ‘Fantastic Beasts’ star of “bursting” into their bedroom and “threatening” them after that karaoke bar arrest. These events were one of many bizarre off-set antics that have publicly embarrassed Warner Bros. in the last few years, as the studio has been closely working with, and monitoring Miller’s behavior over the years. Another incident in April 2020 made waves when Miller was filmed in Reykjavik, Iceland, allegedly intoxicated and choking/throttling an unnamed woman around the neck outside a local bar, Prikið Kaffihús.

How this would ultimately impact “The Flash” remains to be seen, given Miller plays the film’s lead Barry Allen. Reshoot and recasting would be out of the question, Miller’s probably in nearly every frame of the film and that would be way too expensive. However, “The Flash” is already using the multiverse to recast and reorganize its universe, using the different universes as a way to reintroduce Michael Keaton’s “Batman” from the Tim Burton films into this DC universe. It’s not out of the question to consider that if things got worse, Warner Bros. could easily tack on a new post-credits scene where Barry Allen/Flash is suddenly played by another actor. Either way, Warners has more than a year before the superhero film hits theaters on June 23, 2023, which is plenty of time to weigh their options.

Removing Miller from future “Fantastic Beasts” movies would be less of a headache. They have two more installments planned, as the studio famously paused the filming of “The Secrets of Dumbledore” to recast Johnny Depp’s villain role with Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen after breaking ties with Depp over his own public troubles being hashed-out in the media and courts.

What’s in store for Miller? We’ll just have to wait and see if the studio does indeed sever ties with the actor, and how Flash will continue in future DCEU films moving forward.
