The Daniels Enlisted For 'Star Wars: Skeleton Crew' Series

Earlier this month, The Daniels (Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert) earned Best Director Oscar and Best Picture statues at the 95th Academy Awards for their fantastic sci-fi film “Everything Everywhere All At Once.” The pic won a total of seven awards at the ceremony, including Best Original Screenplay, Best Actress for Michelle Yeoh, Best Supporting Actor went to Ke Huy Quan, and Jamie Lee Curtis nabbed Best Supporting Actress. We now know what the directing duo’s next big project will be, and surprisingly enough, it’s “Star Wars.”

Thanks to a report from One Take News and backed up by The Hollywood Reporter, it’s been revealed that The Daniels is part of the directing team of “Star Wars: Skeleton Crew.” A new Disney+ series that hails from “Spider-Man: No Way Home” filmmaker Jon Watts and writer Chris Ford (“Cop Car,” “Spider-Man: Homecoming”).

Led by British actor Jude Law, the new series set during the New Republic era focuses on a group of kids (around ten years old) that get lost in the galaxy, trying to find their way home. Names of the young cast have yet to be announced, while studio head Kathleen Kennedy said the project was pitched to her as “The Goonies” in space.

Why we’re just learning this after the series has wrapped filming isn’t all that strange. Lucasfilm has been able to keep a handful of directors attached to their other “Star Wars” shows like “The Mandalorian” and “The Book of Boba Fett” secret until closer to release. However, how many episodes The Daniels will be working on is unknown, as it could be just one or multiple.

Like “Ashoka,” the series is expected to debut later this year on Disney+, and hopefully, fans won’t have to wait too long to see some teaser footage. We’ll get more details about “Star Wars: Skeleton Crew” at Star Wars Celebration 2023 next month in London. The big fan event takes place on April 7 and will promote the studio’s slate of upcoming live-action and animated projects.
