Jason Momoa Joins Universal's Action-Comedy ‘Shots! Shots! Shots!’

Taking a break from super heroic roles for a moment, actor Jason Momoa (“Dune,” “Aquaman”) is playing a villain in Universal’sFast X,” which is currently shooting now that director Louis Leterrier (“The Transporter”) has replaced Justin Lin. He’s continuing his streak of action projects that will allow him to dip his toes into the world of comedy as well.

And to that end, his comedy chops seem relatively untapped so far. That could change as Momoa’s landed the lead role in the action-comedy “Shots! Shots! Shots!’ at Universal Pictures, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Screenwriters Matt Mider and Kevin Burrow are behind the script and are also developing the “Home Alone” inspired stoner comedy “Stoned Alone” for Ryan Reynolds and Maximum Effort.

Plot details are being kept under wraps, but the new film is being called a family-centric adventure and said to be a mix of James Cameron’sTrue Lies,” “The Lost City” led by Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum, and Liam Neeson’s thriller “Taken.”

“Shots! Shots! Shots!” has an interesting-sounding premise which will likely need a director that can handle both action and comedic elements.

Momoa also lends his voice to an animated film based on the massively popular video game “Minecraft and will be seen next in Netflix’s fantasy film “Slumberland.” While his character Duncan Idaho heroically died in “Dune,” there is a possibility he might have flashback sequences in “Dune: Part Two,” but that all depends on the script and if director Denis Villeneuve can navigate the actor’s growing schedule.

The aforementioned “Fast X” will speed into theaters a year from now, on May 19, 2023, barring any shifts in Universal’s slate or any more potential production delays.
