There was a bit of shake-up on Netflix‘s “The Witcher” when Aussie actor Liam Hemsworth (“Land of Bad”) stepped in to replace Henry Cavill as the mature fantasy series’ lead, Geralt of Rivia, a monster hunter in a grim fantasy world referred to as a Witcher.
With that, Netflix has shared a first-look clip from the fourth season, which is debuting next month and sees Geralt dealing with a Wraith, a vengeful ghostly spirit.
An official logline for the next run of episodes via Netflix:
After the Continent-altering events of Season Three, Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri find themselves separated by a raging war and countless enemies. As their paths diverge and their goals sharpen, they stumble on unexpected allies eager to join their journeys. And if they can accept these found families, they just might have a chance at reuniting for good.
Hemsworth is expected to wrap the show after it completes filming the fifth and final season, with showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich overseeing all that.
If you weren’t aware, the show is both based on the popular Polish fantasy novels from author Andrzej Sapkowski that were also turned into acclaimed video games from publisher/developer CD Projekt Red, who are also behind “Cyberpunk 2077” (season two of the anime show “Cyberpunk: Edgerunners” is coming to the streaming service, and a live-action project is also in the works that could potentially seek Keanu Reeves or Idris Elba asked to reprise their supporting game characters in it).
“The Witcher” exclusively returns to Netflix on October 30, and you can view that first look clip from the upcoming fourth season below. Along with stills featuring returning cohorts of Geralt, along with new cast member Lawrence Fishburne as fan-favorite character Regis, “a world-wise barber-surgeon with a mysterious past.”
